Flagship medical center

At the heart of our system is a 250‑bed acute care hospital that offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services. Key clinical programs include:

  • Emergency and trauma services
  • General and specialty surgery
  • Maternity and neonatal care
  • Cardiology and cardiovascular interventions
  • Oncology, including chemotherapy and radiation therapy
  • Intensive care and high‑acuity medicine

The hospital also houses diagnostic imaging, laboratory and rehabilitation services, enabling seamless care coordination. As a teaching facility within the case, it provides opportunities to examine staffing models, service line profitability and capital needs.

Outpatient network

Laurel Ridge operates five outpatient sites strategically located across the region. These facilities emphasize preventive care, chronic disease management and patient convenience.

Primary Care Clinics (2)

Our two primary care centers offer family medicine, immunizations and women’s health services. They serve as the medical home for thousands of patients and manage referrals to specialists.

Urgent Care Center

Open seven days a week, the urgent care clinic treats minor injuries and illnesses. It helps redirect non‑emergent cases away from the emergency department, improving throughput and reducing costs.

Specialty Clinic

A multidisciplinary outpatient center offering cardiology, endocrinology, orthopedics and other specialty services. It supports chronic disease management and elective procedures.

Rural Outpatient Center

Located in a neighboring rural county, this center provides primary care, telehealth access and behavioral health services, addressing geographic and socioeconomic barriers to care.

Joint venture and ancillary businesses

In addition to its nonprofit operations, Laurel Ridge maintains a 30% stake in a for‑profit joint venture that provides services aligned with our mission. These earnings contribute to our non‑operating income and support community programs. Our ancillary ventures include:

  • Community coffee shop

A welcoming café located in the hospital lobby serves patients, families and staff. Profits are reinvested into charity care and wellness initiatives.

  • Specialty pharmacy

Our on‑site pharmacy dispenses complex medications and coordinates insurance approvals, supporting patient adherence and generating incremental revenue.

  • Real estate portfolio

A modest collection of medical office buildings and leaseholds provides a stable income stream and flexibility for future expansions. Rent from these properties offsets facility costs.

Future direction

The services landscape at Laurel Ridge is evolving. Planned projects include additional primary care satellites, a modern surgical suite and expanded telehealth capacity. These capital investments allow learners to analyze return on investment, debt financing and operational impacts as part of the educational case.
